Both Sides Now: Screening of films by artists from UK.
Both Sides Now explores the political and social connections and differences between the UK and China & Hong Kong, by bringing together artworks that investigate nationhood, individuality and power. Both Sides Now responds to past and recent political and cultural events in both countries, including Hong Kong’s Umbrella Revolution and the Scottish Referendum. It explores the implications of wealth creation, capitalism and its proposed decline, and what they mean for the individual.
Artists in the UK programme include: David Blandy, Ben Rivers, Rachel Maclean, Marianna Simnett, Anita Delaney, Daniel Shanken, Benedict Drew and Lucy Clout.
Both Sides Now is curated and produced by videoclub (UK) and Videotage (Hong Kong). The aim is to open up dialogue between Chinese, Hong Kong and British film artists and audiences, working with artists’ moving image to reinterpret the experience of here and now for both cultures.
Supported by Arts Council England and Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
