David Blandy's Score, "A Brief History of African American Dance" will be performed by Clifford Owen at Cornerhouse, Manchester on Fri 9th May & Sat 10th May 2014
As part of his exhibition Better the Rebel You Know, Clifford Owens will perform his new commission Anthology (2014) live, delivering scores (short sets of instructions, some specific, others open to interpretation) contributed by a selection of British artists whose work considers ideas of race, class and difference.
The scores, contributed by artists including Godfried Donkor, David Blandy and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, draw on British and African-American history and convey themes of pop culture, violence and generosity. Owens’s interpretations will encompass sound, video, photography and live performance.
See below for the schedule of performances. Please note that some of the performances during the exhibition preview on Fri 9 May contain explicit language, partial nudity, dramatised violence and low lighting, so you must be aged 18 or over to attend this session.
